Musical Director - Jayne Murrill

Jayne has been leading the band since 2013 and, alongside her band leading duties, enjoys a successful freelance career working with major UK orchestras including the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra and London Philharmonic Orchestra. She has also worked with chamber ensembles such as the Fine Arts Brass Ensemble and has been a member of the all-female trombone quartet, Bones Apart since 2008.

 

An experienced teacher and trainer, Jayne has coached the trombones of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain, National Children's Brass Band and the National Youth Brass Band of Wales. She has adjudicated for Brass in Concert and UniBrass brass band contests.

Jayne is a regular guest conductor with bands around the UK. She also conducts the Saffron Centre for Young Musicians junior brass band.

 

She began playing the euphonium at the age of 9 whilst at school in Newham, East London and soon after joined the National Youth Brass Band, quickly progressing onto principal euphonium. She moved onto trombone aged 16 and studied at the Royal College of Music with Peter Bassano and Lindsay Shilling.

 

Whilst at college Jayne was the recipient of several awards including the Countess of Munster Trust and the Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother Award before graduating with a BMus degree and an ARCM diploma.
